  • Spatula
  • 9x9-inch baking pan
  • Oven
  • Cooling Rack

Ingredients

  • 2 large apples peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x9-inch baking pan.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • In another bowl, mix melted butter, egg, vanilla extract, and milk until smooth.
  • Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and stir until just combined — do not overmix.
  • Gently fold in apple slices until evenly coated with batter.
  • Transfer batter to the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  • Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Allow to cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar. Cut into squares and serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

🍎 Tips: Use tart apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for a perfect sweet-tart balance. For extra warmth, add a pinch of cloves. Store leftovers covered at room temperature for up to 2 days — they taste even better the next day!
