Ingredients
  

Crust & Topping

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter melted

Apple Filling

  • 4 cups apples peeled and chopped (about 4 medium apples)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan.
  • In a large bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, baking soda, and salt. Stir in melted butter until mixture is crumbly.
  • Press about two-thirds of the crumb mixture into the bottom of the pan to form the crust.
  • In another bowl, toss chopped apples with granulated sugar and lemon juice. Spread evenly over the crust layer.
  • Sprinkle the remaining crumb mixture over the apples.
  • Bake for 40–45 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  • Cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.

Notes

For added flavor, mix in chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans) with the crumb mixture or apple filling. For a sweeter treat, add more sugar to the apple mixture or drizzle with caramel sauce before serving.
