Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar

Wet Ingredients

  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Frying

  • Vegetable oil or shortening (for frying) Enough to fill the skillet to a depth of 1½ to 2 inches.

Preparation

  • In a small mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, baking powder, and sugar.
  • In a separate mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, and vanilla.
  • Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, whisking until no lumps remain.
  • Transfer the batter to a squeeze bottle or piping bag.
  • Set the batter aside while you heat the oil.
  • In a deep skillet, add oil to a depth of 1½ to 2 inches and heat it to 350°F.

Frying

  • Squeeze the batter into the hot oil in straight lines.
  • Fry for about 20 to 30 seconds until the bottom side turns golden brown, then flip to cook the other side.
  • Remove the cooked fries with a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to absorb the extra oil.
  • Continue frying until all the batter is used up.

Serving

  • Serve hot, dusted with powdered sugar and offer various dipping sauces like caramel or chocolate.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Reheat in the oven at 350°F for a few minutes to restore crispiness.
