Ingredients
  

For the Cake Layers

  • 2-3 cups All-purpose flour For making cake layers.
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar Adds sweetness to the cake.
  • 1 cup Butter, softened For a moist texture.
  • 3 large Eggs For binding ingredients.
  • 1 cup Milk To moisten the batter.
  • 1 tablespoon Baking powder For leavening the cake.
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract For flavor.

For the Surprise Filling

  • 1 cup Blue or Pink icing or mousse Represents the baby's gender.

For the Frosting

  • 2-3 cups Buttercream or fondant For decorating the cake.

Instructions
 

Baking the Cake

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  • Stir in milk and vanilla extract.
  • In another bowl, combine flour and baking powder, then gradually mix into the wet ingredients until just combined.
  • Pour batter into prepared cake pans and bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

Assembling the Cake

  • Once the cakes are cool, carve out a small well in the center of the bottom layer.
  • Fill the well with the colored icing or mousse.
  • Place the other layer on top, making sure the filling is hidden.

Frosting and Decoration

  • Frost the exterior of the cake with a neutral-toned frosting.
  • Decorate according to your theme using stencils, cake toppers, or sprinkles.

Notes

Use gel food coloring for vibrant results. Ensure the hidden color isn’t visible from the outside. Consider gluten-free or vegan options based on your guests' dietary restrictions.
