Vegan Jalapeño Cheese Artisan Bread

Ingredients
  

Dough

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2.25 tsp instant yeast
  • 1.5 cups warm water

Mix-ins

  • 1 cup vegan shredded cheese
  • 2 jalapeños diced, seeds removed for less heat
  • 1 tbsp olive oil optional, for brushing

Instructions
 

  • In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, and yeast. Stir in warm water until a sticky dough forms (5 minutes).
  • Fold in diced jalapeños and vegan shredded cheese. Cover the bowl with a towel and let rise in a warm spot for 2 hours or until doubled in size.
  • Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently shape into a round loaf. Do not knead (3 minutes).
  • Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C) with a Dutch oven inside for at least 30 minutes. Carefully place dough into the hot Dutch oven, cover, and bake for 30 minutes. Uncover and bake for another 10–15 minutes until golden brown.
  • Remove from Dutch oven and let the loaf cool on a wire rack for 20 minutes before slicing.

Notes

This bread is best enjoyed warm with vegan butter or avocado. Store in a breathable container at room temperature for up to 3 days or slice and freeze for longer storage.
