Ingredients
  

For the Wontons

  • 1 lb ground pork Can substitute with chicken or tofu
  • 8 oz shrimp, finely chopped Use fresh or frozen shrimp
  • 1 tsp minced garlic Adds flavor to the filling
  • 1 tsp minced ginger Enhances the umami flavor
  • 2 Tbsp soy sauce Can use tamari for gluten-free option
  • 1 Tbsp sesame oil For added richness
  • 1 pack wonton wrappers Store-bought or homemade

For the Broth

  • 8 cups chicken broth Can substitute with vegetable broth for vegan option
  • 1 inch piece of ginger Add to simmer for flavor
  • 2 scallions chopped For garnishing
  • 1 Tbsp white pepper Adjust according to taste

Garnish

  • 2 Tbsp crispy garlic Optional topping for added texture
  • 1 Tbsp sesame oil Drizzle on top before serving

Instructions
 

Prepare the Filling

  • In a bowl, mix together ground pork, chopped shrimp, minced garlic, minced ginger, soy sauce, and sesame oil.

Wrap the Wontons

  • Place a teaspoon of filling in the center of each wonton wrapper.
  • Fold the wrapper into a triangle, sealing the edges with a dab of water.

Make the Broth

  • In a large pot, combine chicken broth, ginger piece, and bring to simmer.
  • Add white pepper for additional flavor.

Cook the Wontons

  • Bring a large pot of water to a boil.
  • Carefully add wontons and cook for 3 to 5 minutes, until they float.

Serve

  • In bowls, ladle hot broth and add cooked wontons.
  • Garnish with scallions, crispy garlic, and drizzle with sesame oil.

Notes

You can customize your wonton filling with various proteins or vegetables. For a vegetarian version, use tofu and a vegetable broth.
